On university campuses, students and faculty who voiced non-conforming opinions faced harassment, censorship, and public shaming. High-profile cases, such as that of Kathleen Stock, illustrate the extent to which individuals were vilified for voicing their perspectives, especially regarding gender self-identification.
The intertwining of political and cultural narratives allowed wokeism to proliferate unchecked. It became intertwined with major social movements, such as Black Lives Matter, and influenced policy-making across various domains, including corporate practices that emphasized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
