The dynamics of proxy wars, which were relatively rare prior to the last two decades, have become the dominant form of warfare. Visual representations of conflicts reveal that while traditional interstate wars have remained stagnant, civil and intrastate wars have seen a dramatic rise—especially since the early 2000s. In fact, by 2020, there were over 25 active proxy wars, often masked under the guise of civil conflicts.
