His ambition propelled him to leadership in France by 1801, conquering territories and challenging European powers, including Denmark-Norway, a kingdom determined to maintain neutrality amidst brewing conflict. The delicate balance of power was shattered when Britain, fearing the Danish fleet falling into French hands, launched preemptive strikes in 1801 and 1807, forcing Denmark-Norway into a defensive alliance and ultimately into the Napoleonic Wars.
