The continent is a trove of untapped wealth, including rare minerals and oil, which align with Russia’s goals to bolster its economic standing while surviving Western sanctions. Nonetheless, while the immediate influx of gold mining profits was noted, such gains hardly compensate for the financial burdens of ongoing military endeavors in Ukraine.
Simultaneously, Russia has capitalized on Africa's demographic growth, seeking not only labor but potential recruits for its military efforts. As sanctions continue to outcast Russia from traditional markets, Africa emerges as a critical partner for commerce, where trade has substantially increased, particularly in arms exports.
