Part 6/10:
For a more precise calculation, the Karvonen method includes your resting heart rate, providing a tailored Zone 2 range. First, calculate your heart rate reserve by subtracting your resting heart rate from your maximum heart rate. Following the earlier example, if a 30-year-old has a resting heart rate of 60, the heart rate reserve is 130. The lower boundary of the Zone 2 range would be found by multiplying this number by 60%, adding the resting heart rate back in. The upper boundary is calculated similarly using 70%.
