Despite a complicated relationship with the Axis powers, following the Winter War, many Finns like Tony rallied to the Nazi cause as a means to restore lost territory. He joined the Waffen SS and participated in the Continuation War, garnering prestigious accolades such as the Mannerheim Cross for his bravery.
