The decline in Belarusian football began to surface after the passing of Kapsky in 2018. Following his death, the club managed to scrape through to the Europa League knockout stages but struggled to maintain its prior success due to inadequate leadership and financial support.
Since 2019, with the club's inability to qualify for Europe coupled with drastic reductions in government funding for sports, BATE Borisov's once unassailable grip on Belarusian football weakened significantly. During this decline, new champions emerged: Dynamo Brest, Shakhtar Soligorsk, and Dynamo Minsk took advantage of the vacuum left by BATE's retreat from European football.
