In December 2024, a rapid offensive by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militia, led by Muhammad al-Jalani, dealt a significant blow to Assad's forces, effectively ending years of civil war. Following this victory, Ahmed Al-Shar emerged as a critical leader. Transitioning from a rebel fighter to the president of a provisional government, Al-Shar presented himself as a force for unity and modernization.
