Part 10/12:
A critical moment came when Heraclius intercepted a letter from Kosro ordering the execution of Charbaras, leading to widespread upheaval among the Persian ranks. This act of treachery signaled doom for the Persian campaign, and as winter set in, Heraclius planned one final assault.
On December 12, 627 CE, he set a trap and decisively defeated the Persians at the Battle of Nineveh, personally dispatching their general. Gathering momentum, he advanced towards Kosro's stronghold. The disarray within the Persian Empire culminated as Kosro was soon overthrown and executed by his own son, Kavad II.
