Compounding this issue, the death rate among young men in Russia is alarmingly high, with young males expected to live six years less than their counterparts in Bangladesh. This is largely attributed to a culture of alcohol abuse, deeply woven into Russian society, which contributes to low life expectancy rates. Historically, the Russian state has used alcohol as a means of social control, perpetuating conditions that lead to high mortality rates among men and further deepening the crisis through generational cycles of poverty and addiction.
