- 1,000 Subscribers: You need at least this number to be eligible for monetization. 
- 4,000 Watch Hours: Your videos must have generated these hours of viewing time over the past 12 months. 
Starting Fresh: Why a New Channel?
The first major piece of advice I offered to a fellow creator, Sydney, was to launch a new YouTube channel, despite him having 3,800 subscribers on his old channel. The reason? Subscribers are often a vanity metric. YouTube prioritizes content that resonates with viewers. If the subscribers did not sign up for the new content (like a podcast), YouTube won’t push those videos to a broader audience.
