A significant study conducted by Whoop involved analyzing over 4 million nights of sleep data from 15,000 users to examine the relationship between evening workouts and sleep metrics. The findings indicate that strenuous evening workouts can delay sleep onset, shorten sleep duration, and reduce sleep quality. Participants saw an increase in resting heart rate and a decrease in heart rate variability after high-intensity workouts performed close to bedtime. However, workouts that concluded at least four hours before sleeping showed no negative impact on sleep metrics.
