Part 2/9:
The story of Bitcoin's rise to legal tender in El Salvador began in a humble beach town known as El Zante. The concept started as a simple idea: integrating Bitcoin into everyday transactions for locals and tourists alike. Conceptualized by a tight-knit community and spearheaded by expat Mike Peterson, the movement aimed to facilitate the use of Bitcoin for basic needs like meals, surf lessons, and even real estate.
As I wandered through El Zante, a personal favorite for its stunning waves and relaxed vibe, I felt the palpable tension between traditional cash and the burgeoning Bitcoin economy. Despite the excitement surrounding Bitcoin Beach—where Bitcoin signs are everywhere—the transition into everyday use appeared uneven, if not chaotic.
