Carbon capture technologies can be confusing, often laden with acronyms. The prevailing ones are CCS, which captures emissions directly at their source, and Direct Air Capture (DAC), which actively extracts CO2 from the ambient air. Judith Hebekeuser of Climeworks illustrated this metaphorically, comparing the atmosphere to a bathtub filling up with greenhouse gases. While turning the taps off—i.e., reducing emissions—remains a priority, monitoring ongoing emissions is equally crucial, hence the interest in capturing CO2 at both the source and from the air.
