Part 10/12:
In 1541, Charles I of Spain orchestrated an audacious invasion of Algiers, aiming to decimate the Barbary pirates. However, he underestimated both the treachery of the sea and the resolve of local forces. Severe storms wreaked havoc on his fleet before it even reached its destination.
Upon landing, the Spanish troops struggled amidst disarray and disorganization due to bad weather and insufficient supplies. The local Ottoman-aligned forces launched attacks, ultimately forcing Charles to retreat in what turned into a disastrous escape fraught with ambushes and loss of life.
