Part 10/12:
Despite the problems associated with population decline, arguments persist for the merits of a greater population. The more individuals that exist, the higher the chance that exceptional talent, akin to historical figures such as Einstein or Da Vinci, will emerge. Yet, a simpler solution to fostering genius lies in equitable resource distribution, education, and opportunities rather than merely increasing the number of people.
Through this lens, business leaders' anxieties about a declining population may mask self-interest; a smaller workforce can often lead to a weaker negotiating position for employees. Greater numbers of unemployed individuals can drive down wages and benefits, ultimately enriching those at the top even as working-class individuals struggle.
