Part 6/10:
In the DRC, Patrice Lumumba became its first democratically elected prime minister but was soon assassinated, leading to decades of misrule under Mobutu Sese Seko, whose kleptocratic regime further hollowed out the nation. Over the years, the DRC faced numerous conflicts, culminating in the tragic Second Congo War, which claimed millions of lives and perpetuated cycles of violence and disadvantage.
Conversely, the ROC experienced its share of turmoil but emerged under different leadership, yet still steeped in corruption and political strife. The legacy of colonial rule continued to haunt both nations, reflected in their governance structures and economic inequalities.
