However, this perspective conveniently overlooks the historical exploitation and oppression inflicted by colonial powers, particularly during King Leopold II of Belgium's notorious reign in the late 19th century. Leopold's ambitions did not serve Belgium but rather his personal greed, turning the DRC into a personal empire where the local populace was subjected to horrific acts of violence.
