Nuclear power plants, however, present a different scenario. Although they do not require a constant fuel supply, they are built with safety protocols that lead to automatic shutdown in the event of a power grid failure. A reactor could technically continue running in a low power mode for an extended period, but without human oversight, the likelihood of a shutdown becomes nearly inevitable following a grid failure.
