Part 7/11:
Escalations and Military Confrontations
Tensions have escalated dangerously since early 2024. Pakistan has conducted air strikes and military operations within its own territory and in Afghan border regions targeting TTP camps. The Afghan Taliban has responded with border skirmishes, culminating in intense exchanges in October 2024, which included attacks on Pakistani border posts and Pakistani retaliation through air strikes.
Despite mediatory efforts from Qatar and Turkey, the ceasefire brokered in October has shown signs of fragility, with sporadic clashes persisting. The internal factionalism within the Taliban complicates efforts to contain militant groups, as Pakistan perceives the Afghan government as either complicit or unable to rein in TTP elements.
