On December 29th, forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognized government clashed with the STC around the Masila oil fields, situated in Hadramald. These fields contain nearly 80% of Yemen's oil reserves and are fundamental to the country's economic prospects. Historically controlled by local tribal groups at Saudi Arabia's behest, these fields saw a brief resurgence of Yemeni government forces before the STC launched their offensive just days later.
