Ukraine’s military has also undergone a remarkable personnel expansion—from around 250,000 in early 2022 to approximately 880,000 by January 2025. Despite substantial casualties—estimated at nearly 170,000 deaths or missing soldiers—Ukraine’s armed forces have gained invaluable combat experience, making them more seasoned and resilient than before. The high casualty figures underscore the brutal nature of the conflict; however, the Ukrainian army’s improved equipment and seasoned personnel mean that Russia’s goal of neutralizing Ukraine’s military strength remains unfulfilled.
