Part 4/8:
Cassidy, alongside his trusted sidekick Lucky Jenkins, begins to suspect that the recent violence is orchestrated by those who profit from keeping the railroad from finishing. Their suspicions point toward Buck Collins and his accomplices, who have been extorting tolls from cattle passing through Collins’ land, and are intent on making cattlemen think twice about building the spur.
Meanwhile, tensions escalate when ranchers threaten to tear up the railroad tracks if they do not receive payment. Jim Marlo, determined to fulfill his promise, assures the workers that the funds are coming and urges patience—yet underlying distrust remains. Cassidy deduces that some of the stolen money was deliberately planted, and that the bandits’ real aim is to stop the project at any cost.
