Their debut film, "Soup to Nuts" (1930), featured the team in a comic performance that, while not critically acclaimed, was praised for its timing. However, internal disputes over pay inequity and Ted Healey's drinking problem prompted Mo, Larry, and Shmp to strike out on their own, forming the group known as Howard, Fine, and Howard. They auditioned for a new film with Fox, which ultimately led to their rebranding as The Three Stooges.
