However, Rick’s musical journey took a turn around 1991, during a period of economic recession. The jazz gigs that supplemented his income diminished, and he began exploring other musical avenues, including songwriting, demo recordings, and a publishing deal with PolyGram. These pursuits gradually overshadowed his guitar practice, and by 1991 he stopped practicing the instrument altogether.
He transitioned into production work, focusing on songwriting and studio work, and the guitar took a backseat. The practice hiatus persisted for 25 years, during which he accumulated vast knowledge in music theory and production but lost touch with his technical prowess on guitar.
