It wasn’t until 2016, when Rick started his YouTube and Instagram channels, that he began reconnecting with his instrument. His focus shifted into reinventing his guitar playing, starting from virtually zero. Without the benefit of ingrained habits or old routines, he saw this as an opportunity to build a new, modern style.
His approach was built on revisiting ideas from his past, notably through his biato book, which had undergone multiple revisions. Making videos for Instagram and YouTube became a catalyst—daily improvisations, quick lessons, and practice routines—which accelerated his growth. Remarkably, he found that his playing surpassed the level he was in his twenties, challenging the common notion that most players plateau around age 30.
