Part 6/10:
Next, the focus shifts to the Sound City 50, a tube amp from the early 1970s, famous for its rich, clean tones that can be pushed into pleasing overdrive. Dave describes it as similar in setup to a four-input Marshall with a normal and bright channel, each with its own volume control, tied together with an active three-band tone stack capable of more advanced frequency shaping.
The Sound City 50 originally came with a four-tens cabinet, which is showcased with this demonstration. The cabinet boasts a vintage look with speckled cloth and is sealed back, making it a unique and vintage pairing with the head. Its speakers, about 25 watts each and made by CTS, provide a mid-forward sound with more breakup and gain than the Orange, especially when driven harder.
