Step 3: Split and Name the Constituent Chords
In some cases, a layered chord can be divided into simpler component chords. For example, "C augmented over D-flat augmented" can be understood as two separate augmented triads, with the top in first inversion. Recognizing the inversion and the inner relationship between the notes allows correct identification of the layered chords.
