Onychophora stands out as the only wholly terrestrial animal phylum, with every described species living solely on land. Unlike many other invertebrates that inhabit aquatic environments, velvet worms are confined to terrestrial habitats, primarily rainforests and regions with lush vegetation and abundant rainfall. They are relatively small, ranging from 0.5 to 15 centimeters, and their velvety appearance, along with elongated, worm-like or caterpillar-like bodies, gives them their common name.
