Part 2/11:
Under torrential rain, Deveraux arrives at the village only to find his fellow soldiers and a number of villagers brutally murdered—an unsettling sight made more grotesque by the fact that the victims’ ears have been severed. This horrifying discovery leads him to a shack where he encounters Sergeant Scott, who has descended into madness. Here, Scott is adorned with a necklace of severed ears and holds two young villagers hostage. As Deveraux tries to reason with Scott, claiming the war is over, violence erupts as Scott shoots one of the hostages in cold blood and demands Deveraux prove his loyalty by killing the other.
