As Ashley navigates typical teenage life, the taint of Smiley resurfaces, manifested through the actions of peers like Zayn and Proxy. Zayn, embodying the quintessential arrogant jock, and Proxy, who inspires Ashley to arm herself against the existence of Smiley, lead Ashley deeper into the legend while giving her the context she needs—or perhaps doesn’t need—to confront what she arguably ignites.
