Part 3/8:
Remote Discoveries in the Gobi Desert
On a recent journey to the Gobi Desert, Lindesay embarked on a trek to document the remains of the Han Wall, built over 2,100 years ago. Far from the stone-brick structures familiar to tourists, this wall was composed of reeds and gravel, a construction strategy that emphasized its utility over appearance. As a key part of the Silk Road, this section of the wall facilitated trade between China and the West while acting as a barrier against incursions from nomadic warriors of the northern steppes.
