Interestingly, Berites pointed out that while the presence of flames indicates some of the fuel has burned, this could sometimes result in a lesser environmental impact. "The authorities are at the moment trying to mitigate the overall situation,” he remarked, noting that emergency drills and tests are routinely conducted in UK ports to prepare for incidents of this nature.
