Critical infrastructure, such as a kindergarten school accommodating 300 children, suffered severe damage; the roof was torn off, meaning the children would be unable to return for the remainder of the school year. Additional reports indicated numerous trees were downed throughout the area, compounding the damage to homes and structures.

Despite the overwhelming destruction depicted in media images, Meyers expressed surprise that the death toll was not higher, attributing the relatively low number of casualties largely to effective warning systems that were in place.
