As they continue their escape plan, disaster strikes when a tunnel collapse injures AB gravely. In his final moments, he reveals a hidden treasure map leading to a fortune beneath their prison. Edmond, heartbroken by the loss of his friend, vows to honor AB's dying wish to use the treasure for good.
Following AB’s death, Edmund cleverly switches places with the body of AB, allowing himself to escape the prison undetected during the commotion of handling AB’s remains. In a frenzy of rage and impulsive survival, he drowns the warden and swims to freedom.
