Following a successful raid, however, the bond between Timen and Jamuka begins to fray. Timen’s generosity in sharing the spoils of war wins him loyal followers, but creates jealousy in Jamuka, marking the beginning of conflict between the two brothers. A subsequent incident where Jamuka’s younger brother is killed leads to a bloody feud, exacerbated by Alton's manipulations that fuel Jamuka’s anger.
As tensions rise, Timen prepares for war, focusing on protecting his people and honoring his wife with a token she had given him. Though his army is outnumbered, Timen leads them with unwavering resolve, facing the daunting prospect of betrayal, loss, and sacrifice. The battle against Jamuka culminates in Timen's first and only defeat, resulting in his sale into slavery.
