Among the downtrodden is Max DeCosta, a young boy whose childhood dreams revolve around escaping to Alysium, a city of luxury and health. His promise to his best friend, Frey Santiago, to one day make it to this paradise drives his aspirations forward. Unfortunately, circumstances take a turn for the worse—Max loses touch with Frey and ends up in a life of crime after growing up in an orphanage where nurturing was scarce.
