OpenAI has emphasized that it does not utilize user conversations to train its models without user consent. Users can manage their data settings to control whether their chat history is saved. If the option to retain chat history is off, users can rest assured their data remains private and won’t be used to enhance the AI’s learning. However, if that setting is left on, conversations may be reviewed by the OpenAI team to refine the AI's responses.
Nevertheless, while this level of transparency is reassuring, it doesn’t eliminate the risk posed by potentially insecure systems. The Genomus leak serves as a grim reminder that privacy is not guaranteed simply because a user is engaged with an AI platform.
