Starting from Darwin's groundbreaking theory, he notes that modern humans have evolved from ape-like ancestors, acquiring upright posture, intelligence, and technological prowess. He introduces a visual metaphor—a bell curve—to depict the shifting distribution of human evolution over time.
"Most of us fall somewhere in the middle of this curve—reasonably intelligent bipeds pushing buttons, driving cars, and living familiar lives," Bentov explains. "But at the edges of this curve are those who are either still very primal or vastly more advanced."
