As the second half commenced, the Irish displayed their resilience. A series of effective runs and sharp passing from Leonard resulted in a touchdown that tied the game at 10-10. The tension in the stadium grew palpable as both teams exchanged scores, with Notre Dame eventually taking a 24-17 lead.
Penn State, however, was far from finished. Drew Aller found his rhythm, connecting with star tight end Tyler Warren for crucial gains. Despite a couple of interceptions — one due to a missed opportunity and another erased by penalties — Penn State tied the game 24-24 with under five minutes to go.
