The Allure of Power and Greed
The darker history of dwarves extends beyond the confines of the Last Alliance. There are moments, as described in "The Hobbit," where certain dwarves allied with orcs for personal gain. The narrator reflects on the nature of evil in the world, suggesting that the animosities between orcs and dwarves stem from a more extensive history marked by greed and betrayal.
Not only dwarves, but men too were susceptible to corruption. The Easterlings, influenced by promises of wealth, show that no race in Tolkien's universe is beyond reproach. Herein lies a core element of Tolkien’s narrative: the universal potency of greed, which transcends any notion of a 'pure' race.
