The JWST is scheduled to observe 2024 YR4 as it reaches its peak brightness in March 2024. The telescope's observations will continue in May before the asteroid moves further away from the Sun. After this series of studies, astronomers will have to wait until 2028 for the next opportunity to analyze the asteroid, making the upcoming observations critical. For this mission, the team will be granted only four hours of observation time—a resource that is highly competitive and awarded through a stringent selection process.
