Part 6/15:
On the maritime front, the Ottoman Empire’s strategic key—the Bosporus Strait—remained contested. The Russian Black Sea Fleet launched a bombardment against Ottoman forts, deploying five battleships, two cruisers, and ten destroyers. Fog and German submarine G-86’s sinking of two Russian destroyers forced a retreat, showcasing the fragile nature of naval operations in the region. Notably, the G-86, initially involved in the October 1914 bombardment of Sèvres, was renamed Yahrut Pasha and became the Ottoman navy’s flagship.
