Traditional and Modern Uniforms

Between 1871 and 1914, German infantry uniforms varied significantly across different regions and units, making logistics and command challenging. Historically, each military district and state had its own distinctive colors, badges, insignia, and helmets, allowing commanders to identify units from afar.

However, by 1910, a standardized uniform known as Feldgrau (field gray) was adopted across the entire German Army, although regional differences persisted in badges and insignia. Before 1910, the uniforms were often colorful and elaborate, used mainly during parades and ceremonial events.
