By late October 1918, it was painfully clear to all sides that the war was nearing its end. The Germans recognized their army’s weakness, the Allies pressed forward with renewed vigor, and political upheaval threatened to overturn entire nations. The week was marked by a mixture of fierce fighting, strategic maneuvers, and revolutionary upheaval—each advancing the inevitable collapse of the Central Powers and setting the stage for peace negotiations that would eventually bring the Great War to an end.
