Hitler's vision for the SA diverged from traditional political activism. Inspired by similar groups in other countries, he intended it to be an offensive and terrorizing force, capable of intimidating opponents and consolidating Nazi influence on the streets. The SA's functions included street battles, propaganda, andSymbolic acts of violence. These paramilitary units, composed primarily of former soldiers, laid the groundwork for street-level conflict that would escalate in the coming years.
