Hitler did entertain plans to pressure Turkey and Iran after the Soviet victory, seeking to extend German influence into the Middle East in a post-Soviet scenario. His directives contemplated campaigns from Bulgaria through Turkey to pose threats to British-held Egypt and the Suez Canal, highlighting the importance he assigned to controlling southeastern Europe and the Middle East.
However, these plans were contingent on the successful collapse of the Soviet Union—a goal that proved overly optimistic.
