While the Germans pressed on at Sidi Rezegh, British forces at Tobruk remained largely indifferent to Rommel’s maneuvers. The 4th New Zealand Brigade, the 6th New Zealand Brigade, and supporting units occupied key positions around Tobruk and El Duda, with their headquarters clustered around Trig Capuzzo. However, the German regrouping and expansive movements threatened to encircle them, especially as Pienaar’s 1st South African Brigade lagged behind due to delayed orders and poor communication.
