Two decades later, the ripples of these atrocities continue to affect the community. Anila Kumari, an activist and journalist, played a pivotal role in changing perceptions about female infanticide, giving midwives an opportunity to divert their actions from destruction to preservation. Training midwives to save lives, rather than extinguish them, gradually shifted the community’s mindset.
However, as Amitabh documented these changes, he did so with the haunting consciousness of the past lingering behind. The interviews with midwives revealed how chain responses to a culture steeped in centuries-old dowry traditions had decimated countless lives.
