A landmark study conducted in 2013 would later establish a probable link between C8 and several health risks, including kidney and testicular cancer. Despite DuPont taking steps to minimize their usage of C8, the chemical continued to influence legislation and health debates across the globe. The company ultimately spun off its Teflon production into Chemours, which attempted to create a newer variant called GenX, suggesting it was a safer alternative. However, subsequent research revealed that GenX posed comparable environmental and health hazards as its predecessor.
